Introducing a math concept through children’s literature is an excellent way to engage young learners. A narrative provides structure and helps children “mathematize,” or make meaning of a math idea in a real-world context.
Remember, the first reading of a book with your students is just for FUN! Use a text to teach a math idea during a later reading when the story is already familiar to your young learners.
