How many chaperones should we bring?
We require a MINIMUM adult-to-child ratio of 1:5. However, you are welcome and encouraged to bring even more grownups as part of your group, especially if you are visiting with very young children. (Share our Chaperone Tips for more guidance.) If you arrive without adequate adult supervision, you will be asked to reschedule your visit.
Where should our bus drop off and pick us up?
Buses unload and load on the curve of Park Drive (not in front of Navy Pier). The exact location is just south of the main entrance of Navy Pier. Look for Navy Pier security personnel in yellow jackets if you need assistance. Make note of your bus number and company and get the driver’s cell phone number. (See our Group Leader Info for more guidance.)
How do we enter the museum?
Walk along the south side of Navy Pier to locate CCM’s Groups entrance. Look for The Great Debate, a statue by Chicago artist Hebru Brantley!
What will we do with our lunches and other belongings?
If possible, leave belongings such as coats and backpacks on the bus and consolidate your lunches into bigger bags or boxes (this will make check in quicker). CCM does not have a designated lunch area inside the museum. Your group is welcome to eat inside Navy Pier, where seating is ample and first-come, first-served.
How long is our visit?
All field trip and group visits are 2 hours long. Please arrive on time for your scheduled entry. Group orientation begins once the entire group has arrived, and we are unable to extend your time in the museum if you are late.
Can we all stay together as one big group inside the museum?
No, we ask that you split into small groups. The size and capacity of our exhibits will not accommodate all of the visitors in your group at once. Splitting into small groups of five or fewer helps ensure your safety and enjoyment of the museum.
What experiences are developmentally appropriate for the children I’m bringing?
Preview our exhibits by age to find out what playful learning environments are best for babies and toddlers, ages 4-8, and ages 9 and older. Also, learn how you can support learning through play during your group’s visit.
How do I cancel or reschedule my visit?
CCM does not require a down payment or charge a cancellation fee. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled visit. CCM cannot guarantee availability for rebooking after cancellation. To reschedule, use the link found in your confirmation email.
